Tru-Edge Grinding, Inc. provides turn-key services for all of your cutting tool needs. In addition to regrinding or modifying existing tools, and designing and manufacturing special tools, we also offer in-house PVD hard surface coating utilizing industry leading Platit AG LARC® technology. This results in quicker turn-around and additional cost savings for our customers.

Tru-Edge operates the Platit ∏80 coating system to produce low-temperature PVD coatings, including TiN, TiCN, TiAIN, AITiN, and nACo®. This state-of-the-art equipment enables us to produce high-quality coatings with excellent accuracy and longevity and features the best cleaning operation available on the market today.

At Tru-Edge, we comply to stringent quality requirements for coating systems applications and maintain the same commitment to quality in coating as we do in our grinding and manufacturing processes. We 100% batch test and certify each coating run with traceable documentation. This investment furthers our commitment to provide customers with cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art value added services. We can also certify parts, as required.

Coating Applications

TiN

The general-purpose coating for cutting, forming, injection molding as well as tribological applications.

TiAIN (Universal AI)

Universal high-performance coating for cutting (drilling, milling, reaming, turning). Also suitable for dry machining.

Monolayer: for stable finishing and roughing
Multilayer: for interrupted cuts

TiCN-MP

Tough MultiPurpose coating for interrupted cutting, milling, stamping, forming and hobbing.

AITiN

High-performance coating with very high aluminum content and heat resistance. Used for dry high speed machining and hard machining.

Monolayer: for stable finishing and roughing
Multilayer: for interrupted cuts

TiCN

Conventional carbon nitride coating for interrupted cutting, milling and tapping and stamping, punching and forming.

nACo®

Nanocomposite PLATIT coating with extremely high nanohardness and heat resistance. Used for high performance (dry HSC) and for normal machining conditions. 
nACo® = (nc-AITiN)(a-Si3N4) 

AlCrN

A multilayer coating with high wear resistance against abrasive loads. AlCrN has a good heat and oxidation resistance. It performs extremely well in milling applications and is outstanding for very dry applications. 

nACRo

A Nano composite PLATIT coating which exhibits extremely high scratch resistance and heat resistance. nACRo is an exceptional coating for difficult to cut materials.

CrN

The standard coating for non-cutting application for molds, dies and machine parts. Especially suited for applications where Copper is the material being altered.

ZrN

A monolayer coating that effectively reduces the built-up edges when machining aluminum (<12% Si content) and titanium alloys. ZrN works well for medical applications and has good heat resistance.
